I have worked in the mental health field in various capacities for nearly twenty years and in that time have been struck by how powerful it can be to sit with someone, to listen, to witness, and to hold space for whatever they are carrying. In earlier chapters of my work, I supported adults living with chronic mental illness in outreach settings, walking alongside them as they navigated community life and worked toward their own goals. I have also spent time as an education assistant with grade two students, experiences that deepened my adaptability and appreciation for the unique strengths people bring to their life. These years have cultivated in me a deep empathy and care for what others are going through and how deeply human it is to hurt and to heal.
I am currently completing my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology at Trinity Western University. My approach to counselling is grounded in Emotion-Focused Therapy, which focuses on the healing power of emotional awareness and connection. From my years of walking with people through both the everyday and the extraordinary challenges of life, I have seen that change is rarely instant, it often begins in the smallest moments of safety and recognition. When we feel safe enough to face what is hard and make sense of what has been, those moments can ripple outward, allowing us to move through what is with greater self-compassion and self-acceptance.
I welcome and support individuals of all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. Everyone deserves care that feels safe, respectful, and affirming, regardless of one’s ethnicity, gender, age, sexuality, or faith.
